Florfenicol antibiotic has a broad spectrum of antimicrobic effects and high efficiency against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms: Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Escherichiacoli, Salmonella spp., Pasteurellamultocida, Haemophilus spp., Proteus spp., Enterobacter spp., Shigella spp., Klebsiella spp., Bordetella spp as well as against Mycoplasma spp.
Florfenicol is active against bacteria strains that generate acetyltransferase and are resistant to chloramphenicol (laevomycetin).
When administered orally, florfenicol is quickly absorbed by gastro-intestinal tract and easily penetrates into most organs and tissues. Bioavailability effect of florfenicol in birds after oral administration is 55%. After admission with drinking water therapeutic concentration of florfenicol in bird’s body is achieved after 20 minutes and retains in organs and tissues of birds for 24 hours.
Florfenicol is eliminated from the poultry’s organism mainly with bile and manure.
